Spring 2013 Hospitality Career Fair a Success
The hallways of HRM were packed with students in professional dress during their spring Hospitality Career Fair on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Over 30 businesses were represented at the event hoping to find their newest employees.
Valerie Stinson, director of human resources, and Jason Davis, department manager and NAU alumn (‘02), spoke on behalf of the Old Spaghetti Factory. They were searching for students for their MIT (Managers in Training) program in the restaurant. According to Stinson, 35 interviews with HRM students had been scheduled.
“NAU students are the best; it’s why we come here,” Davis said.
The San Diego Zoo was also present at the fair and looking primarily for interns. Becky Lynn and Amy Adams, HR representatives, spoke to many hopeful students during the event. They were able to fill all of their interview slots and even added extras to accomodate the students. Their internship program offers college students an opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience in a number of different fields within the organization.
Many students took advantage of this great event and were able to potentially get relevant jobs within their chosen career field.
NAU junior Maddie Thomas attended the career fair to speak with hotel companies in order to get an internship that would fit her major. She was able to schedule interviews with Marriott Hotels as well as Enchantment Resort.
"I went to the career fair last semester, but this semester's was bigger and better," she said.
Here's just a little of the energy that filled the halls:
