SHRM’S First Internship Fair was a Success
SHRM had an Internship and Seasonal Work Fair on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. This is the first year that Suzanne Siler, program director for internship and career services, hosted an internship fair and the feedback from vendors and attendees indicated that it was a success.
Fifteen companies registered, 13 were present, and approximately 50 students attended the event. The recruiters and students were happy with the positive energy in the building.
Tiare Kaiwi is a senior who was in charge of checking students in at the front desk.
“I think this event is perfect for freshman and sophomores because it’s less intimidating than the career fair,” she said. “If students attend events like this one, they will be better prepared for future career fairs.”
Kari Gfrorer, human resource manager from Jason’s deli, was also pleased with the event.
“Every opportunity we have to come to SHRM, we take it,” she said. “This event has given us the opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with each student without feeling rushed, and I think the students feel more relaxed.”
Amanda Harrison, human resources director from Little America Hotel, had positive feedback as well.
“The students came prepared, we received a lot of resumes, and we look forward to returning,” said Harrison.
Courtney Foltz is a senior who has attended every career fair. She really enjoyed the outcome of the internship fair.
“This event felt very casual and relaxing. I had time to speak to all the recruiters who attended, and I’m happy for this opportunity. I think I will find an internship or job before I graduate,” said Foltz.
Suzanne Siler was also very pleased with the outcome of the event, and she looks forward to hosting it again next year.
“It was a really good start with much more to come,” said Siler.
