There are times in our lives when we feel moved by a cause. It may result in our focus for a brief amount of time, or in a donation, or in a commitment to volunteer for that cause.
Landon Cooper was touched by the passing of a friend and was driven to the point of not only committing to a run across America to bring awareness to Sarcoma Cancer, but to create a fund raising organization around that cause, sanctioned by the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
Landon will run from the Golden Gate Bridge on February 14, 2013 to Ocean City, Maryland by July 13, 2013, but before he takes that first step, his plans reach far beyond that. His intention is to bring the effort to a global level, running one country a year.
In this particular cross-country run, they are shooting to raise $100,000 and are hoping to at least reach the $55,000 mark in order to name a grant in their friend’s honor.
Landon reached out to Ryan Priest, an HRM major and long distance friend, to help him bring his vision to reality. Ryan serves as Tour Director for the MILES2GIVE effort, which began only a few short months ago.
An HRM student, Ryan Priest, is taking a break this semester to be part of this journey. On-a-semester/off-a-semester has been Ryan's pattern and as an International Hospitality major, it is serving him well. He has taken his breaks working in Australia, Guam and Nicaragua, traveled throughout the world, and is now focused on applying his experience and educational resources to the MILES2GIVE cause. He plans to complete his degree at HRM in Fall of 2013.
We wish the MILES2GIVE team well on this journey and look forward to Ryan's return and the story he'll share.
