International Outreach at the FCB
In an effort to enhance and promote international programs within SHRM and the FCB, here are a few key areas of focus for the coming year:
Global Business Program
The Global Business Program (GBP) welcomes its first class of incoming freshman this fall. The program is doing well, with 34 students enrolled in the program, 22 of them being freshmen. Each of the five GBP languages (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish) are being studied although Spanish leads the pack with numbers.
International student engagement
Approximately 10% of FCB students are classified as international students. As is the case with all students here, their success is what matters. To that end, the FCB and SHRM will be partnering more closely with the Center for International Education (CIE) on international student success initiatives and Ding Du, associate professor of economics, has graciously agreed to act as a faculty mentor to international students. Du is also willing to work with faculty on international student issues as necessary.
The incoming international students participated in a successful orientation and welcome reception on Wednesday, August 26.
Global Business Club
A new club is being launched within the college this fall. The Global Business Club is open to any student with an interest in international business; it is not limited to international of GBP students. One goal of the club is to link international and domestic students in social and educational settings.
Also, the Global Spotlight series will continue, focusing on staff and faculty within the FCB and SHRM to highlight the benefits of international experiences.
