HRM Scholarship Lunch
On April 13, 2018 HRM hosted an event to recognize and celebrate the students who received a scholarship as well as give students a chance to meet their donors.
Over one hundred thousand dollars in scholarships were awarded to over one hundred HRM students at the event. The scholarships were provided by generous donors in the HRM community, and through fundraising events such as the yearly golf tournament, casino night and the Cult Cafe.
When the students arrive at the event all they know is that they are getting a scholarship. Only at the event do they learn the type and amount of the scholarship and the donor.
President Rita Cheng spoke at the event honoring our students for their hard-work and the donors for their generosity.
This event has been going on for over 28 years and HRM Professor Boger says, “It’s the best time of the year.”
Other students agree noting how much these scholarships mean to them and their families.
Kacie Clark a junior at HRM, who received two scholarships, shared, “I’m a first generation student, so, all of the payments I have to make for college are out of my pocket. My parents have no contribution to my educational expenses at all because they can’t. With these different scholarships and how hard I’ve worked, I have been able to earn a full ride scholarship for this whole entire time and I’m graduating a year early. So all of this money is going towards me actually being able to go to college, when everyone else in my family couldn’t because of our financial situation.”
Imani Shanice McAlister said, “Without this scholarship I wouldn’t even be able to afford my last year of college.”
This event would not be possible without the generous donations from donors, who care about the students and faculty who work hard to make sure that all of the students can afford to go to college.
Students from HRM were acknowledged during the lunch, these students were:
