Delta Sigma Pi and NACE Members Volunteer to Keep Our Buildings Sparkling

Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) and the National Association of Catering and Events (NACE) have been volunteering their time to clean the SHRM and FCB buildings.

DSP's housekeeping

DSP cleans the SHRM building every last Wednesday of the month. On some occasions they also clean the FCB building. The number of volunteers vary, depending on how many individuals can make the event. They've had as many as 22 members volunteer at one time.

“Community service is a fundamental for Delta Sigma Pi,” said member Brett Zornes. All members volunteer, and they’re happy they can give back to their faculty.

The DSP students bring sparkle and shine by performing these housekeeping tasks:

Mopping the bathroom floors and the cafe floor
Vacuuming the entire building
Dusting all railings
Cleaning/sanitizing surface areas including desks, chairs, railings, etc.
Collecting trash outside the building, including cigarette butts and emptying the cigarette tray
Taking out the trash

The last time DSP cleaned the building was on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. They had a total of seventeen volunteers and they cleaned for almost an hour and a half.

This chapter also volunteers their time to the Humane Association, Relay for Life, and local food pantries. They are working to become more involved with assisting the homeless.

NACE's housekeeping

NACE members also clean the SHRM building. They try to do it at least once a month. Depending on the amount of members who participate, sometimes it takes them 45 minutes to an hour and a half to finish.

The NACE students bring sparkle and shine by cleaning these areas:

Classrooms
Hallways
The fireplace lounge
Tables and chairs
All the whiteboards
All of the glass windows and ledges

Elizette Moreno, student chapter community service chair, has tried to expand the amount of volunteer work NACE participates in. They have volunteered at the Flagstaff Family Food Bank and are currently in the process of adopting a section of the Flagstaff Urban Trail System (FUTS). Their biggest project this semester is the Relay for Life. They will be hosting a booth at the event on April 30th to May 1st.
