Grand Opening: SHRM East

On Monday, October 3, 2011, the School celebrated their renovated facility. SHRM “East” includes 14,000 s.f. of additional instructional space with a 32 work station demonstration kitchen, dining room/beverage lab, hospitality management lab with access to hotel management software technology, and much more. The renovation holds a LEED Silver certification sustainability measurement.

Rich Howey, executive director of the School, said, “The buzz factor in the building is absolutely unbelievable!  The renovation gives us incredible visibility with a state-of-the-art facility that is among the top programs in the country.”


Northern Arizona University's School of Hotel and Restaurant Management (SHRM) ranks among the top 100 hospitality and tourism programs in the world, 5th largest in the United States.  Now the School has a state-of-the-art facility to match its reputation.

The School of Hotel and Restaurant Management began in 1986 in recognition of the need to develop a strong hospitality program to meet the needs of the industry in Arizona.  NEWH has been connected with SHRM since 1996 has supported nearly $50K in scholarships.
