WANDA M. COSTEN earned her Ph. D. in sociology from Washington State University. She also has an Executive MBA from Pepperdine University and her undergraduate degree is from the United States Military Academy at West Point. During the 2013-2014 academic year, Dr. Costen served as a Fulbright Scholar with the University of the West Indies-Mona in Kingston, Jamaica. Dr. Costen has taught courses in strategy, human resources, organizational behavior, introduction to hospitality, employment law, and diversity.
Dr. Costen’s research interests include racial and gender inequality in organizations, women and leadership, strategic human resources, managing diversity, and ethnic minority student experiences. Her work has been published in Journal of Management Inquiry, Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, Journal of Human Resources in Hospitality and Tourism, Journal of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Education, and Gaming Research and Review Journal.
Dr. Costen has partnered with business and public organizations to help them develop diversity initiatives and training programs. She also has ten years of business management experience in sales, operations, and human resources. In 2004 and 2005, Dr. Costen was a consultant with Wynn Las Vegas. She has also worked with Aramark, and the Lower Colorado Region of the Bureau of Reclamation.
